MIRACULOUS FIGHTBACK (November 15, 2025)

West Torrens vs Port Adelaide

DOWN AND OUT, WEST TORRENS came from the clouds to beat Port Adelaide 12-11 in division one baseball at Lockleys on Saturday.

Trailing 11-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Eagles scored seven runs, followed by two in the bottom of the ninth to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The Magpies built their big lead with consistent scoring, including:

  • Four runs at the top of the fifth (Brodie Arriola, Jacob Tobias two-run dinger, Dayton Mitchell, Jack Stead)

  • Three runs at the top of the eighth (RBI hits to Will Paech, Nick Vasic, Arriola)

But the game turned dramatically in the bottom of the eighth, helped by three errors, with crucial hits from Daisuke Kaneko, Tom McGarry, Joel Chapman (two RBIs), Sam McGarry, Jacob Scott and Harry Taintey — making it 11-10.

Bottom of the ninth:
Nick George was hit by a pitch, Chapman singled, Sam McGarry reached on an error (scoring a run), Scott was hit by a pitch — and pinch hitter Jude Barker was also hit by a pitch to force in the winning run.

Southern Districts vs East Torrens

TWO BIG HITS WAS THE difference in Southern Districts’ 5-3 victory over East Torrens at Payneham.

South scored early through Brett Hattersley, Ben Short and Byron Turner to go 1-0 up.

East Torrens replied with two runs in the bottom of the second via Luke Chandler and a Jay Sanderson home run.

Pitchers Jacob Morin (SD) and Charlie Ashcroft (ET) were dominant, keeping scoring tight.

South took control in the fifth:

  • Matt Hutchinson walked and stole second

  • Hattersley RBI single

  • Short homer (4-2)

A Hattersley home run in the eighth sealed the deal.

Gawler Rangers vs Kensington

A FOUR-RUN SECOND INNING set up Gawler’s 10-0 win over Kensington.

Rangers scored early through walks and a passed ball, before a big second inning featuring Nathan Schreier, Aidan Prokopec and Raph Pelletier.

Kensington’s Deakin Filko pitched strongly in relief (4.2 innings, one hit, eight strikeouts), keeping the Cardinals competitive until late.

Pelletier dominated at the plate, adding a two-run single in the seventh and a home run in the ninth.

Seb Heintze-Unger pitched seven strong innings for the win (three hits, 10 strikeouts).

Henley & Grange vs Glenelg

IT WAS ALMOST ONE-WAY TRAFFIC as Henley & Grange defeated Glenelg 11-1.

Highlights included:

  • Jose Paula RBI double (1st inning)

  • Phil Acosta two-run double (2nd inning)

  • Paula RBI single + an error (4th inning)

Glenelg scored their lone run through Bailey Edgar and Alec Steff.

Henley pulled away late through Inglis, free passes and errors.

Jordy Gross pitched five innings (four hits, five strikeouts) for the win.

Adelaide vs Goodwood

WITH FOUR PLAYERS collecting three hits, Adelaide overwhelmed Goodwood 10-0.

Standout hitters:
Stef Welch, Ian Heck, Rahmen Martinez, Taj Williams (all three hits)

The big inning came in the sixth, featuring Williams, Pace, Forney and Welch.

Pitcher Hugh Batchelor threw seven innings (six hits, six strikeouts).

Woodville vs GGCD

IN A TOUGH PITCHING BATTLE, Woodville pulled away for a 6-1 win.

Senators pitcher Jose Pimentel was dominant (8 innings, three hits, 12 strikeouts).

Woodville built a steady lead through Carroll, Moore, Nicholson and Perez.

GGCD’s lone run came from a Jett Chenoweth solo home run in the eighth.

Sturt vs Northern Districts

A COURAGEOUS NORTHERN DISTRICTS fell 4-0 to reigning premiers Sturt.

Key moments:

  • Simon Baumer home run (3rd inning)

  • Sixth inning rally: Garcia, Hennessy and Knuckey (two-run triple)

Matt Williams pitched six strong innings (four hits, seven strikeouts).

MAGPIES UPSET SOUTH (November 18, 2025)

PORT ADELAIDE UPSET TOP TEAM Southern Districts 5-3

Midweek at Semaphore in division one baseball.
The Hawks’ loss leaves them tied for top spot with Woodville, West Torrens and Adelaide, with Gawler Rangers half a game behind, followed by the Magpies and Henley, in a tight battle for a top six berth.

Consecutive hits by Nick Vasic, Brodie Arriola and Jacob Tobias saw two runs to give Port the perfect start in the bottom of the opening inning.

At the top of the second frame, South scored a run after Tanner Nykeil singled, went to second on Lucas Doyle’s walk and came home on Nick Hutchings’ hit, making it 2-1.

Port added another run in the bottom of the second, when Tommy Bird doubled and scored on Sammy Steigert’s two-bagger (3-1).

The Hawks again cut the lead at the top of the third after a walk, Luke Hansen’s single and two more walks.
A wild throw set up Dayton Mitchell’s RBI single for Port in the fifth, before Jake Campbell hit one out at the top of the sixth to make it 4-3.

With time running out, Port extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a run after two walks and Vasic’s RBI hit.

Reliever Steigert pitched 3.1 innings for the win (2 hits, 3 strikeouts).
Gary Grosjean went the distance for South (7 hits, 8 strikeouts).

WEST TORRENS 2 d EAST TORRENS 0

A tense pitching battle at Lockleys, decided by back-to-back home runs from James McFarlane and Sam McGarry in the bottom of the fourth.

The Eagles collected just one more hit (a McFarlane double).
Arlo Marynczak dominated from the mound (4 hits, 11 strikeouts, 7 innings).
For the Redsox, Harry Deliyannis allowed only three hits with 10 strikeouts in six frames.

GAWLER RANGERS 4 TIED STURT 4

At Karbeethan Reserve.

The Rangers scored first through Zac Heintze-Unger, before Sturt answered with runs in the second, third and fourth innings (hits to Baumer, Brebner-Russ, Farr, MacBeth, and Green).

Gawler’s comeback included doubles from Zac and Seb Heintze-Unger, and a final-inning equaliser when Raph Pelletier reached, advanced, and scored on a wild pitch.

Austin McClure went the distance for Sturt (7 hits, 8 strikeouts).
Luis Verastegeui threw 3 innings in relief for the Rangers (2 hits, 2 strikeouts).

WOODVILLE 2 d KENSINGTON 1 (8 innings)

Scoreless until extras.

Starters Adam Gray (Kensington) and AJ Verastegui (Woodville) were superb:

  • Gray: 8 innings, 6 hits, 9 K2s

  • Verastegui: 5 innings, 1 hit, 10 K2s

Sammy Garcia added 3 hitless innings in relief for Woodville.

Placed runner Breandon Taheny scored on a wild throw, followed by an RBI from Wade Moore for a 2-0 lead.
Kensington’s placed runner Haru Riley scored, but the rally fell short.

ADELAIDE 6 d NORTHERN DISTRICTS 1

At Plympton.

Adelaide scored first when Stef Welch singled and came home on Ian Heck’s double.
North tied it through hits to Maguire, Dziego, and Clifton.

A two-run single from Welch in the fifth broke the game open.
Adelaide added three more in the sixth through Pace, Forney, and a wild throw.

Heck pitched 5 innings for the win (5 hits, 5 K2s).

GGCD 6 d GLENELG 2

At Glenelg.

The Dodgers took the lead in the third through Phillips, Chester, and Caskey.
Jett Chenoweth opened the fourth with a home run, followed by hits by McKibbin, Manson, and Phillips.

Glenelg replied via Alec Steff and later Henry Martinella and Oliver Alexander, but GGCD sealed it with a two-run double from Tom Walsh.

James Vaughan earned the win (4.1 innings, 1 hit, 9 K2s).

HENLEY & GRANGE 10 d GOODWOOD 2

A dominant pitching display by Wilson Lee, who threw:

  • 6 innings

  • 1 hit

  • 15 strikeouts

  • 1 unearned run

Rams scoring highlights included:

  • Jay Couzner and Phil Acosta RBIs

  • Jack Partington manufacturing a run with speed

  • Cameron Tilly’s 3-run home run and later 2-run double

  • Lee’s RBI single

Goodwood’s runs came through Billy Sutton and Alex Gellert.
