Remembering Darryl ‘Sid’ Hosking OAM
Baseball South Australia is deeply saddened by the passing of Darryl “Sid” Hosking OAM, a true pioneer and pillar of our game.
A Life Member of Baseball South Australia and a South Australian Baseball League Hall of Fame inductee, Sid’s lifelong commitment to baseball has left an enduring mark on our community. His leadership, generosity, and unwavering passion created opportunities for countless players and volunteers, particularly in the Mount Gambier region, where his legacy will be felt for generations.
Heritage Committee Chair Greg shared:
"Sid has achieved so much for baseball in Mount Gambier, where he spent 65 years serving the baseball community — playing, coaching, umpiring, scoring, and in administration roles as President or Treasurer. He has done it all. His dedication is unmatched, and his impact will be remembered forever."
Sid’s contributions have been widely recognised. In 2023, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) by the Governor-General for his services to baseball. He also received Life Memberships from the Central Baseball Club, Mount Gambier & District Baseball League, SA Country Baseball Association, and SA Baseball League. In 2022, he was among the inaugural inductees into the Baseball SA Hall of Fame.
All these honours reflect the immense contributions Sid made to the sport he loved and the community he served. He embodied dedication, humility, and connection values that continue to guide South Australian baseball.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Sid’s family, friends, and the entire Mount Gambier and District Baseball League community.
A true gentleman. Rest in peace, Sid.
