2027 AYC Coaching Expressions of Interest

Baseball South Australia is excited to open Expressions of Interest for coaching and team staff positions for the 2027 Australian Youth Championships (AYC) in both the U16 and U18 age groups. This is a unique opportunity to be part of one of Australia’s premier junior baseball events, helping guide and develop the next generation of South Australian athletes both on and off the field.

We are looking for passionate, committed individuals who want to contribute to a high-performance environment that prioritises athlete development, team culture, and long-term success.

Available Positions

Coaches Who STRIVE

Coaching & Staff Selection Criteria

Head Coach

The Head Coach will lead the overall program and is responsible for creating a high-performance, athlete-centred environment.

Key requirements include:

  • Experience coaching at representative, pathway or high-performance level

  • Strong leadership and culture-building ability

  • Advanced understanding of game strategy and player development

  • Proven ability to plan and deliver structured programs

  • Experience in talent identification and selection

  • Strong communication with athletes, families, and staff

  • Commitment to athlete wellbeing and long-term development

Assistant Coach

Assistant Coaches will support program delivery and athlete development across all phases.

Key requirements include:

  • Coaching experience in junior or pathway baseball

  • Strong technical understanding of the game

  • Ability to work within a coaching team

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Contribution to training and game-day support

  • Positive leadership and role-modelling

Pitching Coach

The Pitching Coach will lead all pitching development and workload management.

Key requirements include:

  • Specialist pitching knowledge and experience

  • Understanding of arm care and injury prevention

  • Ability to design pitching programs across phases

  • Strong technical analysis and feedback skills

  • Experience working with youth athletes

  • Collaboration with wider coaching staff

Executive Officer

The Executive Officer supports all operational and administrative aspects of the program.

Key requirements include:

  • Strong organisational and administrative ability

  • Experience in scheduling and logistics management

  • High attention to detail and professionalism

  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders including families and governing bodies

  • Experience in team management or sports administration (desirable)

  • Commitment to supporting a positive team environment

General Expectations (All Roles)

All appointed staff will be expected to:

  • Align with Baseball SA values and the STRIVE framework

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and reliability

  • Commit to all program dates including off-season and tournament periods

  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) a Working With Children Check

  • Hold relevant coaching accreditation where applicable

  • Complete required safeguarding and integrity training

Off-Season Program Commitment

The off-season program plays a critical role in athlete development and selection.

Coaches will be expected to actively participate in:

  • State Pathways Program

  • Training and development sessions

  • Selection processes and game simulations

  • Squad preparation leading into AYC

This involvement is essential in shaping both extended and final squads.

Key Dates (Indicative)

  • State Pathways Program: 20 July – 18 September (9 weeks)

  • U16 & U18 State Team Trials: Late September

  • Extended Squad Trainings: October

  • Final Squad Confirmed: By 1 November

  • Squad Training: November – Early January (Mondays & Wednesdays)

  • Australian Youth Championships: Mid-January
