Henley & Grange vs Woodville – Split Series

The pick of Saturday’s double header round of Division One baseball was at West Lakes, where Henley & Grange and Woodville split, both winning a game 3-0 each.

In the early clash, it was the Senators who came out on top, behind another strong outing on the mound from AJ Verastegui, who conceded five hits for 10 strikeouts in seven frames to shut Henley out.

Woodville scored single runs in the third (on a Cesar Perez RBI single after an error), fifth (two walks and another Perez RBI single) and sixth (Breandon Taheny RBI single) innings.
On the mound for the Rams, Wilson Lee took the loss, after giving up three hits for nine strikeouts in five frames.

All the scoring in the late contest was done by Henley in the bottom of the opening dig – Jack Partington walked, stole second base and scored on Cameron Tilly’s RBI single. After Jose Paula walked, an error saw two further runs.

Jordan Grose was on fire from the mound, conceding two hits for 11 strikeouts in seven innings to claim the win, while Jose Pimentel took the loss, after giving up two hits for 10 strikeouts in 5.1 frames.


Southern Districts vs West Torrens

Another high-quality series was played at Christie Downs between Southern Districts and West Torrens, with both teams claiming a 2-0 victory.

In game one, the Eagles took the points, scoring single runs in the fourth (Tom McGarry hit and an error) and seventh (James McFarlane single, a stolen base and Nico Vanderlinden RBI hit) innings.

Cooper Morgan collected the win after six shutout digs, giving up two hits for five strikeouts, while Gary Grosjean gave up three hits for nine strikeouts in seven frames to take the loss.

The pitching performance of the round came from Nick Hutchings, who guided the Hawks to a 2-0 win, pitching a one-hitter with four strikeouts in seven innings. Arlo Marynczak threw six digs for West Torrens, allowing four hits and four strikeouts.


Port Adelaide vs East Torrens

Port Adelaide triumphed in both games against East Torrens at Payneham, winning 5-4 in eight innings and 9-3.

In the first game, the Magpies scored three runs in the third frame after Brodie Arriola singled, Jacob Tobias doubled, and Tommy Bird hit a two-run homer for a 3-0 lead.

East Torrens tied the game in the seventh after hits from Jay Sanderson and Owen Couzner, followed by a clutch Zac Stroud two-run single and Carter Powell’s RBI.

Port sealed the win in the eighth, with Jack McKay and Wil Paech setting the stage for RBI hits from Nick Vasic and Arriola.

Port took game two 9-3, thanks to home runs from Tobias and Dayton Mitchell. Bird claimed the win in relief, striking out six over three innings.


Gawler Rangers vs Glenelg

Gawler Rangers claimed both ends of the double-header at Glenelg, with home runs fueling 7-1 and 8-5 victories.

In game one, Dylan Child, Aidan Prokopec, and Brad Przibilla each hit home runs, while Seb Heintze-Unger went the distance from the mound for the win.

Game two was a thriller. With the scores tied 5-5 in the seventh, Child smashed a three-run homer to secure victory. Tyler Renken claimed the win in relief.


Adelaide vs Sturt

It was surprisingly easy going for Adelaide against reigning premiers Sturt at Mitcham, with the Angels winning 9-2 and 10-4.

In game one, Ian Heck hit a three-run home run, while Nick Veselinovic pitched six strong innings.
Adelaide dominated game two with consistent hitting from Henry Cann, Brayden Edwards, and Taj Williams, while Ian Heck earned the win from the mound.


Golden Grove Central Districts vs Goodwood

At Illyarrie Reserve, Golden Grove Central Districts and Goodwood split their double-header, with the Dodgers taking game one 3-1 and the Indians bouncing back 6-2.

Flynn Chester shined in game one with 12 strikeouts across seven innings. In game two, Goodwood’s four consecutive hit batsmen in the third inning sparked a four-run rally, with Cooper Pratt delivering a key two-run single.


Kensington vs Northern Districts

The two winless teams met at Erindale, with Kensington dominating 12-0 in game one and edging out a 2-1 victory in the second.

Tyler Butterwick opened the first game with a grand slam, while Adam Gray pitched a complete game for the win.
In game two, Jack Platten and Sean Maple led the Cardinals to a tight win, supported by solid pitching from Clay Kennedy and Deakin Filko.
