Baseball5 Grand Slam!

It’s a grand slam!

Baseball5 officially launched in Adelaide during the October school holidays and boy was it a hit with the young kids!

Here at Bennett Field, Baseball SA hosted the first ever Baseball5 tournament played in South Australia.

Baseball5 is a five on five, five-inning street version of baseball that can be played anywhere and all you need is a rubber ball.

During the first week of the October school holidays, Baseball SA held a Baseball5 tournament that consisted of 5 teams with 25 participants ranging from the ages of 8yrs – 15yrs. We had teams representing their local clubs with 2 teams from Adelaide Angels and 1 each from Glenelg Tigers, Port Adelaide Magpies and Woodville Senators. The grand final was an exciting one, which saw the Adelaide Angels and Port Adelaide Magpies compete for inaugural cup. We even had an exciting and energetic announcer Dash from Woodville calling big plays while getting the crowd pumped. At the end of the day, it was Port Adelaide who came home with the chocolates in a nail biter 29 – 28.

All 5 teams had an amazing day and experience, especially being some of the first in South Australia to play Baseball5 while knowing nothing about it prior to the tournament. It was great to see how competitive everyone was but also the great sportsmanship that was displayed by all players.

Baseball SA are looking to expand the Baseball5 community by reaching out to primary and secondary schools, universities and introducing a social competition. Keep an eye on our social media for all the opportunities to get involved including a Baseball5 activation centre around the ground at West Beach.
