COVID-19 UPDATE: 16 November 2020 - 7PM

Published Mon 16 Nov 2020

To our valued community,

As per our previous update (16th November 2020)  on the status of the Parafield Cluster, we are providing you with further information following the recent media release from SA Health and the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing. There have been no new cases from the cluster from previous announcements, however with the number of testing today expected to reach record levels, it is predicted that there will likely be more cases discovered tomorrow.

New restrictions have been imposed on the general public in response to the Parafield Cluster in South Australia and to see these updates please click here. Within these restrictions there are also “sport specific” updates which will be in place for the next two weeks, unless otherwise advised, they are as follows:

  • Gyms, recreation centres, trampoline/play cafes to close
  • Community sports fixtures and training temporarily cancelled
Note: this applies to indoor and outdoor sports, contact and non-contact. Outdoor fitness activities still allowed.
  • Private gatherings at licensed venues will be capped at 50, with 1 person per 4 sqm, no vertical (standing) consumption
  • Hospitality (pubs, clubs, restaurants) capped at 100 per venue, with 1 person per 4 sqm, no vertical (standing) consumption incl outdoor, max booking size 10, seated dining only.
  • All activities with an approved COVID Management Plan scheduled for the next 2 weeks are cancelled

In line with the above restrictions now in place, Baseball SA will be postponing all competitions and training activities effective from midnight tonight (Monday 16th November 2020, 12am) for a two week period. This includes:

  • SABL Seniors
  • SABL Juniors
  • Super League
  • Little League Select Program
  • High Performance Training
  • Use of the Indoor Training Facility and Gym
  • Use of the West Beach diamond’s
  • SABL Club trainings – Metropolitan and Regional

This is an extremely disappointing and challenging time for us all, but if we are to see ourselves getting back on the field sooner than later we need to ensure we are abiding by the governments directive, remain vigilant with good hygiene practices and support one another through the next phase. Again, I can not emphasise with you enough, we must remain positive and continue to carry out all the good work we have done thus far, South Australians did this before and we can do it again.

Baseball SA will now be working through how we return to activity again once restrictions are lifted and what this means for our fixtures for the remainder of the season. As you can appreciate we have not had time to work through this, however this will be a priority as we move over the next few weeks and continue to monitor the State Government updates. This being said, we encourage you to remain active and pick up some of our at home training sessions, grab a mate and head down to the park for some catch and throw and simple drills. This is a temporary disruption to our season and no doubt we will be back in no time provided we all play our part.

As advised by State Government, the Baseball SA office will be closed until further notice and the staff will return to working from home offices. If you need to contact any of the staff, the office phones will be redirected and will be always attended to. We will all be available on email and can manage meetings online through zoom or teams.
