Max Stagg and Drew Davies invited to National Junior Camp

Two South Australians have been named to Baseball Australia’s list of 44 players invited to April’s National Junior camp.

Max Stagg (West Torrens) and Drew Davie (Southern Districts) will head to the national April camp that will be used as a key decider of who makes the U-18 National team.

The camp – which will be supported by Perfect Game as part of its recently announced partnership with Baseball Australia – gives an opportunity for the nation’s best talent to showcase what they can do.

“Not only is April’s camp a key step in our U-18 World Cup campaign, but it is a fantastic opportunity to get a large group of our best prospects in one location,” said Baseball Australia’s performance pathway manager Michael Crooks.

After the camp a National Junior Squad will be picked. The squad will travel to the US in late August before being finalised ahead of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Florida.

WBSC will announce the schedule for the World Cup closer to the September 9-18 event in Florida.

Stagg and Davies each made their debut appearances for the Adelaide Giants this summer.

Now they'll head to the camp.

The camp will run from April 16-24 but is yet to have a venue locked in due to a number of logistical issues created by COVID-19.

Baseball Australia was also forced to pare back plans for an 80-player camp due to COVID restrictions and accommodation policies out of its control.

The camp will now focus on the U-18 World Cup only, with last year’s under-19 cohort provided opportunities against Australian Baseball League outfits

Adelaide Giants and Brisbane Bandits across the summer.

April’s camp showcase and games will be available to follow on the Perfect Game and Synergy Sports platforms.
