State Team Rosters Announced

Baseball SA are excited to announce the players, coaching staff and executive officer’s selected to represent South Australia at the upcoming Australian Youth Championships, to be held in Geelong from the 10th – 15th January 2020. Players will represent SA in both the U16 and U18 age groups and compete against WA, QLD, VIC, NSW and ACT. In 2020 the tournament will be moving to Geelong for the first time in over four years, where it has primarily been played in Blacktown, NSW. The Geelong Baseball Centre (Pioneer Park) will play host to the majority of the games for both the U16’s and U18’s, with Melbourne Ballpark in Altona and the Prince of Wales Park in Ballarat also hosting a number of games over the weeklong event.
Baseball SA are proud again to be sending two very strong teams to the 2020 tournament, where two years ago the U18 Team in 2018 coached by Pathways and Development Manager, Tyrone Hambly won the gold medal! Andrew Scott, former Australian Player and member of Baseball Australia’s Hall of Fame, is the current head coach of the U16 team. “We are very pleased with the group that we have selected. The talent within in this group is exciting to see and the coaching staff look forward to helping them better their baseball moving forward ”, said Scott. “We have 9 weeks of training ahead of us, to gel together as a team and head over to Geelong and achieve our goals of bringing home a medal”.
It is great to see the spread of talent coming from many different SABL clubs, meaning that programs and development opportunities within clubs are solid and strong pathways have been paved from grass roots to high performance. Baseball SA are dedicated to improving the quality of the coaches across clubs and will continue to work on offering new courses and accreditation sessions during the 2019/20 season.
We wish both teams the very best of luck and hope all athletes, coaches and officials travelling to the AYC in Geelong have a wonderful experience and bring home some valuable learnings.
