Baseball SA is excited to welcome back Matt Williams as our new full-time Education and Development Manager.

“We are super excited to be bringing Matt Williams back to baseball. His wealth of knowledge of the game makes him the perfect match to lead our new focus in education,” said Baseball SA General Manager, James Rawson.

Matt's primary responsibility will be for planning, driving, and evaluating performance pathways to ensure the sustained success of baseball for South Australia. He will be a strong leader to athletes engaged in the pathways and mentor coaching staff. The Education and Development Manager role will establish a network of coach developers to create a system where clubs are the focus and BSA supports and guides their endeavours as well as identify talent in youth players in SA.

Rawson then went on to say, “Combine this with his playing, coaching and development experience and we have the ability to take the programs for our younger athletes to a whole new level.”

Matt brings an extensive range of knowledge to this role from his experiences nationally and internationally. He spent some time in the Minnesota Twins system pitching in the minor leagues and has represented Australia for World Cups and the World Baseball Classic. On home soil, he has an extensive resume in Claxton Shield, ABL and State League appearances. Matt also spent some time as a pitching coach in China.

More recently Matt has worked in the sport and recreation field here in South Australia. The community would know Matt from his extensive work with female athletes especially with our State Women’s team earlier in the year.
